In 1948 Albert Heijn’s company was first listed on the Amsterdam Stock Exchange.
Three year’s later further expansion was secured with the acquisition of the Van Amerongen chain of stores.
It was the dawn of a new retail era in 1955 when Albert Heijn opens the first self-service supermarket in Rotterdam, the Netherlands.
