A pilot of the internship program was established in North Moravia, in the Zbynek Kozub region. It offers young people living in orphanages temporary jobs in Albert and Hypernova stores to help them build work experience and learn what it means to work in a supermarket.
The first internship was in an Albert store in the town of Ostrava. It was awarded to a young baker-in-training living in the Ostrava-Hrabová orphanage. Soon, she was followed by a friend from the same orphanage who took up a part-time job in another Ostrava Albert store.
On the basic of the first experience with these two you people, the company met with the directors of a series of orphanages to discuss the opportunities that it offers for part-time employment to the young people in their institutions. The response was overwhelming!
By the end of 2008 the company was employing 21 new people in part-time functions.
There is more to the program than simply making positions available in stores. The program is designed to ensure that the young people chose for the program are ready and that they are giving every opportunity to succeed in their work.
Even more importantly, the store managers and their teams work hard to successfully integrate the interns into the business.
This project is not just about finding a new workforce. It serves educational purposes too, teaching these young people what the value of money is and what a person must do to earn it,” she said.
The success of program and is optimistic that the results of this pilot will make it possible to launch the program in other regions of the country.
