Bratislava, December 2, 2009

Until Christmas Day, all counters in Hypernova stores will be open at all times. This way, their operator Ahold Retail Slovakia intends to decrease the time people wait in long queues during their pre-Christmas shopping.

From December 2 to Christmas Day, customers of the Hypernova stores should not find a single closed counter. During the prolonged opening time from 7:00 (or 8:00) to 22:00, which ads one hour to the normal opening hours, all counters will be staffed at all times, i.e. even during the least busy hours. If a customer finds a closed counter and will be the first one to report the fact at the information desk, he/she will receive €100 worth of shopping coupons. A closed counter is one that is neither lit nor staffed.

In Slovakia, Ahold operates 22 Hypernova stores, in which there are a total of 271 counters. “This is our response to the needs and expectances of our customer, to whom we wish to offer a comfortable shopping experience also during the hectic pre-Christmas period,” emphasised the company’s spokesperson Diana Chovancová Stanková. After the mentioned period, Ahold will evaluate the success rate of this initiative together with related customer responses, so that it can employ it also at other times of year.
