Move is designed to improve efficiency and flexibility of dry goods supply chain

Landover, Md. – Today, Giant Food of Landover, Md. (Giant) announced it is entering into a tentative agreement to transfer its dry grocery business, including dry grocery operations in Jessup, Md., to Jessup Logistics, LLC, an affiliate of C&S Wholesale Grocers. The transfer arrangements may be finalized within a 90-day period, with a potential transfer of operations by year-end.

After careful study of its distribution network, Giant-Landover concluded that transferring the Jessup Dry Grocery Warehouse operations to Jessup Logistics would streamline the supply chain and allow it to focus on the sourcing and supply of Fresh Food operations. Giant-Landover stores would experience no changes in their service and customers would see no changes in service, quality or product selection. “This move is designed to better position our supply chain network to be more efficient and flexible while still offering superior value and quality to our customers,” said Robin Michel, President of Giant Food of Landover.

As part of the agreement, Jessup Logistics would adopt the Jessup Dry Grocery Warehouse labor agreements with the same terms and conditions as the agreements that Giant-Landover currently has in place with Locals 730, 922 and 1486, which cover unionized associates at the Jessup Dry Grocery Warehouse.

Jessup Logistics, LLC is an affiliate of C&S Wholesale Grocers. Founded in 1918, C&S provides distribution services to grocery chains and independent stores, delivering to approximately 4,600 locations. By partnering with Jessup Logistics, Giant-Landover would take advantage of C&S’ procurement and logistics network.
