Zaandam, June 9, 2010 – From today, Albert Heijn’s Appie is also available for Google’s smartphone operating system, Android. Appie helps customers to make shopping lists and to sort the groceries on their lists according to the walking route in their own Albert Heijn store.
Logical step
Appie was introduced in November 2009, initially for the iPhone, and has since been downloaded from the App Store over 260,000 times. Customers rate the free service highly and use it intensively. In addition, more and more customers have asked for the service to be expanded to other smartphone platforms. The expansion to Android is a logical step for Albert Heijn. Android is the fastest growing smartphone platform in the world, and more and more Android handsets are being introduced by manufacturers such as HTC and Samsung. Android makes it possible to offer services in a very user-friendly manner.
So, starting today, customers with Android phones can also use Appie. The service is available free of charge from the Google Android Market.
Further expansion
The expansion of Appie fits with Albert Heijn’s goal of making grocery shopping as enjoyable as possible. In order to make Appie available to even more customers, the service will also be expanded to the ah.nl website later this year. New, handy functions will be added too. For example, this summer will see the addition of a barcode scanner, making it easy to update your shopping list with products you have almost run out of at home.
Appie
Appie is a free service of Albert Heijn, which helps customers to make shopping lists, sorted according to the walking route in their own Albert Heijn store. Previous purchases, Bonus offers and other groceries can easily be added to the shopping list. Appie also contains over 9,000 recipes, including recipes from AllerHande magazine. The recipe finder helps customers decide what to cook, and the ingredients for a selected recipe can be added to the list quickly and easily. The groceries can then be crossed off the list in the store. Appie also contains a store finder for addresses and opening hours. The service was launched for the iPhone in November 2009. Albert Heijn wants to know what its customers think of Appie and what else they would like to see in the application. Therefore tips can be sent to appie@ah.nl.
