We are active, contributing members of society, and support the communities in which we operate. Community involvement is a shared engagement between our business, our customers, our suppliers, our employees and a.o. the local authorities of the communities we are part of.
We listen to what the communities in which we operate say and support the causes they feel strongly about. We support a wide variety of community efforts, combining financial and in kind contributions with strong local partnerships. Main focus areas are social welfare, education and young people and health. Many of our initiatives complement the other main themes in our corporate responsibility: Healthy Living, Sustainable Trade and Climate Change. We also strive to have a positive influence on a store's neighborhood, making sure it is clean, safe, and that it provides neighborhood information and interaction.
Our objectives in community engagement are to:
- Integrate our community activities into our daily business operations for maximum customer awareness.
- Focus programs on operating company or local level, where we are closest to the communities we serve.
All of our activities in community engagement are designed to meet these two objectives. Many of our programs also complement Ahold’s commitment to CR goals such as promoting healthy lifestyles, sustainable sourcing and environmental responsibility.
