We want to reconnect people with a sense of well being and the social pleasures of eating through healthy, inspiring food choices. By offering healthy choices, we benefit our customers and our business. Our overall objective is to increase healthy living amongst our stakeholders, promoting healthier choices and, eventually, lifestyle shifts towards healthier habits.
We focus on activities in three categories:
- Making it easy to choose healthy products.
- Providing information and education to motivate customers towards healthy lifestyle choices.
- Offering health and wellness programs for employees.
Ahold's policies for Healthy Living:
Alcohol: Ahold encourages consumers to drink responsibly and sells alcohol in a responsible manner. Ahold complies with the age restrictions and other drinking laws in the countries in which we operate.
Genetically Modified Organisms (GMO)/ Biotechnology: Where there are clear, demonstrable benefits to consumers, Ahold has no objections to the responsible use of safe biotechnology. Products we offer which are made with this technology are products which are approved by the authorities, based on a safety and environmental impact assessment. We differentiate our assortment from country to country in line with consumer demand.
Organic food: Ahold is offering more organic products and expanding existing product lines in order to enlarge the organic assortment we offer. In this way, we are committed to satisfying the needs of our customers. Among Ahold’s corporate brand organic labels are: AH puur&eerlijk, I Love Eco and Nature’s Promise.
Tobacco: We comply with local laws and regulations about the selling of tobacco in the countries in which we operate. In our stores tobacco is therefore sold over the counter.
Pornography: Ahold does not sell pornographic products.
Nano technology: Modern technology allows for man-made nano-particles (as opposed to those naturally occurring) to be included in food products. As with all novel foods, products made with nano-technology need to be assessed for their safety. Existing legislation in the US and Europe ensures that this assessment is made before such products can be marketed.
