Four-week interactive program educates how to eat right and lose weight
Carlisle, PA – July 1, 2010 - In an effort to help combat childhood obesity, the five in-store nutritionists at GIANT Food Stores and MARTIN’S Food Markets are launching Passport to Nutrition, a Kids Healthy Ideas Program. The four-week summer program is for children ages 6-10 years old and their parents and takes place at the Camp Hill, Linglestown Road and Willow Grove GIANTS and the Eldersburg and John Rolfe (Richmond) MARTIN’S.
“It’s important for both kids and their parents to understand what they can to do combat childhood obesity,” said Shirley Axe, health and wellness manager. “With our Passport to Nutrition program, we are teaching kids how to eat right and lose weight in a fun and interactive way, while providing their parents with the necessary tools to help achieve a healthy lifestyle at home.”
Each in-store nutritionist will teach a series of four 75-minute classes designed to give kids and their parents the information and motivation to achieve a healthier weight by improving one’s lifestyle and eating habits. Among the topics to be covered include the food pyramid, understanding food labels, how to integrate enough fruits and vegetables into one’s diet and ideas for healthy snacks. Kids will also learn about nutrition through a store scavenger hunt and other games.
