Ahold appoints new General Counsel

Royal Ahold, the food retailer, has appointed Ton van Tielraden Senior Vice President and General Counsel. He succeeds Paul Butzelaar, who will take early retirement as of January 1, 2000.

Ton van Tielraden joined Ahold in 1997 as Deputy General Counsel. He previously held various positions at Hagemeyer and Unilever in the Netherlands. He has also practiced law for several years at one of the leading law firms in the Netherlands.

Royal Ahold operates nearly 4,000 stores in the U.S., Europe, Asia and Latin America, with annualized sales approaching USD 40 billion.
