- Royal Ahold, the international food retailer, has appointed Frits Visser President and CEO of its institutional food supply subsidiary in the Netherlands, GVA/Gastronoom, effective January 1, 2000. He replaces Gerard van Breen who has been named Senior Vice President, Global Sourcing at Ahold.
Mr. Visser is currently General Manager of Gastronoom Holding B.V. Prior to joining Gastronoom, Mr. Visser held various management positions at CPC Nederland, Bols Nederland, Ahold and AC Restaurants and Hotels.
A food supplier to the Dutch hospitality sector, Gastronoom was recently acquired by Ahold, joining its existing institutional food supplier, GVA. The combined operation has annualized sales of approximately USD 800 million and employs 1,800 people.
Royal Ahold operates nearly 4,000 stores in the U.S., Europe, Asia and Latin America, with annualized sales approaching USD 40 billion.
