Zaandam, The Netherlands, January 7, 2002 The Ahold Corporate Executive Board has appointed Marcelo Silva President of its recently acquired Brazilian supermarket company G. Barbosa, effective January 2, 2002.
The new Ahold subsidiary operates 32 hypermarkets and supermarkets in northeastern Brazil, with annualized sales of approximately Euro 300 million. G. Barbosa will strengthen Aholds successful Brazilian operation Bompreo. With 111 supermarkets and hypermarkets and annualized sales of approximately Euro 1.5 billion, Bompreo is market leader in northeastern Brazil. In his new position, Silva, currently Chief Financial Officer Bompreo, will report to Tom den Hertog, President of Bompreo and CEO Ahold Brazil.
