Albert Heijn opens revamped supermarkets

Tuesday, June 26, 2007

On June 21, Albert Heijn opened a completely revamped supermarket in the town of  Oegstgeest. Albert Heijn is making its mark with this store by offering its customers more choice, greater savings and a pleasant shopping experience. The store has a warm, contemporary feel. Besides the familiar product selection, many new items have been added to the shelves. In the weeks to come, the test store in Oegstgeest will serve as a proving ground. Depending on the results, the new concept may be rolled out to other stores as well.

Albert Heijn Oegstgeest is a revamped store catering to the changing needs and requests of its customers. The store fits in well with a modern-day image and the Albert Heijn strategy. Dick Boer, chairman of the board of directors, adds, “Albert Heijn places the customer front and center. In Oegstgeest we’re distinguishing ourselves by this approach. In this store, customers can make the experience as affordable or exceptional as they want. By giving them the choice, savings and service they want, we can continue to grow in this market.”

More choice

One of the key points in the renovated store is the enormous choice on offer. Approximately 2500 products have been added to the existing range, in produce, brand names, house brand and economy packaging. You can go to Albert Heijn for all your shopping needs. In addition to specialty products, customers can just as easily choose affordable items. The lowest-priced products and economy sizes are indicated in red. Orange helps customers pick out the nearly 400 weekly bonus offers.

New product range

One special feature is the new cooking concepts, which make it a snap to put a quick, delicious dinner on the table. Several top Dutch chefs have developed high-quality culinary creations exclusively for Albert Heijn, which are simple to prepare. The ingredients are grouped together in the display, as well as accompanying wine pairing suggestions. The Wok & Go concept allows customers to whip up a speedy, healthy stir-fry meal in no time. These ingredients are also grouped together in the product display and customers can devise endless unique combinations.

There is an extensive wine department with competitively priced wines, as well as a selection of wines worthy of special attention. New to the product range are children’s party items. Cakes, goody bag treats, streamers, invitations: customers can find everything they need in one go. In addition, a wide range of heat-and-serve cocktail snacks has been added.
