Customers of Giant-Landover's Giant Food supermarket chain have donated more than $348,000 and 100 tons of food to support five local food banks that support needy individuals and families throughout the Washington-Baltimore metropolitan area and Delaware Valley region.
“Giant has supported area food banks for over 25 years by contributing perishable and nonperishable merchandise from the company’s stores and distribution centers, providing corporate grants, and donating a variety of equipment and services,” said Jose Alvarez, president and CEO of Giant Food. “Our annual Good Neighbor Food and Funds Drive offers our customers a convenient way to donate money and food to assist needy individuals and families.”
The donations were collected during Giant’s 2007 Good Neighbor Food and Funds Drive, which took place at all Giant stores during a six week period in November and December. The Good Neighbor program provided customers with the opportunity to support their local food banks by donating non-perishable food items or making monetary contributions at the checkout registers at all Giant stores.
