As a Dutch listed company that is - due to its listing in the U.S. - also required to file periodic reports with the United States Securities and Exchange Commission, Ahold is committed to compliance with the corporate governance and accounting principles requirements pursuant to both U.S. and European rules and regulations, in particular the Sarbanes-Oxley Act in the U.S., and the principles of the Dutch Corporate Governance Code (Tabaksblat Code)

We believe that good corporate governance as a critical factor in Ahold's future strength. As part of our 'Road to Recovery' strategy, we have put in place a stronger and more transparent corporate governance and organizational structure. We continue to seek ways to improve our corporate governance by measuring ourselves against international best practice, primarily in the Netherlands and United States.

Throughout our company, by means of open dialogue and by managing our business structures in a transparent and accountable way, we will strive to keep our investors, customers, employees and partners secure in the knowledge that our business is run in their best interests. We have put in place a strong, complete and transparent corporate governance and organizational structure. We want to improve the clarity of accountability and standards and improve controls. We want to establish a clear and compelling culture and values for the Ahold group.
back to topWhat is the role of Peter Wakkie?
Peter Wakkie assumed the role of Ahold's Chief Corporate Governance Counsel and Member of the Corporate Executive Board on October 15, 2003. He supervises the legal discipline within Ahold worldwide. He supervises the legal aspects of organizational transactions and the preparations of legal reports and statements. He is chairman of Disclosure and Compliance Committee of Ahold that -inter alia- oversees Ahold's public disclosures. He also plays a leading role in the process of improving corporate governance throughout the company. Mr. Wakkie is responsible for reviewing internal governance, policies and practices for legal compliance as well as conformance to ethical and social standards. Additionally, he is tasked with developing and implementing initiatives on corporate social responsibility. He is also responsible for all operating policies together with the other members of the Corporate Executive Board.
