Ahold acquires stores in Latin America

Royal Ahold, the food retailer, announced today that its Brazilian joint venture Bompreço acquired Petipreço Supermercados, a supermarket chain with six stores, located in Salvador and Lauro de Freitas in the state of Bahia.

Total sales amount to approximately USD 90 million.
Also, Santa Isabel, Ahold's Chilean joint venture, announced today it signed a ten-year lease agreement to operate four additional supermarkets in Lima, the capital of Peru.

The four supermarkets have sales of USD 20 million. Their joint selling space is 3,000 sq.m. The agreement raises the number of Santa Isabel's stores in Peru to 24.
