Royal Ahold, the international food retailer, has appointed Geoffry Adams country manager of its joint venture in China. He succeeds Johan Dreijer, who has headed up the operation since the start of Ahold's activities in China in 1996.
Adams comes to Ahold from Asian food retailer Dairy Farm International Holdings Ltd. in Hong Kong, with whom he has held various top-level management positions. Dreijer returns to The Netherlands to take up new responsibilities at Ahold's Dutch operations. During his three-and-a-half years in China, he developed the business into a 40-store operation with 1998 sales of approximately USD 50 million.
