Royal Ahold, the international food retailer, has appointed Geoffrey Adams as the new President and CEO of its operations in Poland, effective November 29, 1999.
Mr. Adams was Country Manager of Ahold's former joint venture in China until the end of October. He has held various senior management functions in Asia and Europe, including positions with the Asian supermarket company, Dairy Farm.
Royal Ahold operates nearly 4,000 stores in the U.S., Europe, Asia and Latin America, with annualized sales approaching USD 40 billion. Ahold has been active in Poland since 1995 and now operates 105 stores, including the Max supermarkets and Sesam discount stores. Annualized sales in Poland amount to approximately USD 250 million.
