Pingo Doce is the largest supermarket chain in Portugal. It is managed by JMR, a joint venture between Jerónimo Martins Holding and Ahold. Pingo Doce guarantees low prices and good service, with a focus on healthy, fresh meals.

While the first Jerónimo Martins store dates back to 1792, the Pingo Doce chain was established in 1980. The joint venture between Jerónimo Martins and Ahold was formed in 1992.

JMR was formed in 1992 when Ahold partnered with Jerónimo Martins, SGPS, S.A. The company manages Pingo Doce and is headquartered in Lisbon, Portugal. Ahold holds 49 percent of the shares and corresponding voting rights in JMR, and shares equal voting power on JMR’s board of directors with Jerónimo Martins, SGPS, S.A.
